The harvest

The Fortulla vineyards are surrounded by splendid Mediterranean scrub.  This portion of the Tuscan coast is characterized by holm oaks, junipers, strawberry trees, eucalyptus, brambles, rosemary, and many other bushes.  We do not have any business activity close to our vineyards, but only the scrub, making our choice of organic more real and truly in harmony with nature.  The sea breeze keeps our grapes dry and the height of the scrub helps to create an ideal microclimate for our vineyards.

The choice of our grape varietals was dictated by our terroir and climate, in order to give life to excellent wines, rich in fruit and sun, balanced but always respecting the distinctiveness of our vines.  Our viticulture is practically all done by hand, respecting nature and its fruits, up to the final step of the harvest.

The harvest takes place at different times for each vine and each parcel of the vineyard, respecting the various phases of optimal phenolic ripeness. All the grapes are harvested by hand and worked very carefully in the cellar.  Quality is a distinguishing feature and a corporate philosophy.  During the processing of the grapes we use a destemming machine to sort the grapes berry by berry, by hand, on the moving table, putting in our wines only the fruit of the vine.
